Norwegian diagnostics company Genetic Analysis has been notified that Canadian patent application 3039144 will be approved. This is stated in a press release.The patent protects a diagnostic method for identifying patients with irritable bowel syndrome, IBS, who are more likely to respond to treatment with fecal microbiota transplantation, FMT. The method analyzes the composition of the gut microbiota to identify bacterial patterns associated with treatment response.Patent protection in Canada extends through 2037. Genetic Analysis states that the global market for IBS diagnostics was estimated at 3.3 billion dollars in 2025 and is expected to reach 5.4 billion dollars in 2034.The company views the patent as part of its strategy to develop microbiome-based diagnostics for more individualized treatment decisions.
