Biotechnology company Cyclezyme announced on Wednesday that the company, together with a partner in recycling, is preparing a major joint development project to advance enzymatic recycling of polyester-based plastic toward pre-industrial scale.The announcement follows a completed feasibility study in which the technology was tested on real-world plastic streams and where significant volumes of low-grade PET have been identified that currently go to incineration. The planned project will also analyze side streams and residual products to optimize the process and provide a basis for future techno-economic analyses.The partner company is one of the leading players in recycling and environmental technology in Europe.
